Dear students,

I'm very proud of your presentations about the cities. They were very enriching. They contributed to everybody's general knowledge and they helped you to learn more vocabulary, practice fluency and review grammar. Congratulations! You are a great team.

Well, we still worked on the Comparatives and Superlatives, had the listening on page 45. At the mall, we had a chance to explore a little bit of the possibilities in the e-folder. There are many exercises for you there. Use it to reinforce what we are studying in class. Also, you could see the computer lab I'm responsible for. Of course, the computers are not AS fast AS Luiz Fernando's laptop, but we can work there in a very nice space!

Cities. Where would you like to visit? Why?

Which is THE MOST INTERESTING city in the world?

Well, my dearest students, last class we worked on Comparatives just after I presented a little bit about Boston.

Some examples of our comparisons:

Boston is COLDER THAN Brasilia.
Boston is MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE THAN Brasilia.

We also reviewed the structures What's ... like? and What DOES he like?

For more practice on the comparatives and the superlatives, check out these links:

Homework: workbook page 29

DON'T FORGET TO BRING THE PICTURES/POSTERS TO CLASS ON MONDAY WITH A CITY THAT YOU HAVE VISITED.

See you on Monday.

My dearest students,

Today we had much interaction going on! Everybody talked about a different city, and we got to know that Cláudio is a very cosmopolitan student!!! He's been all over, including to a city of our listening activity, Dubai. Amazing, isn't it?

We started unit 6, pages 42 and 43. We worked on the difference between:

DO YOU LIKE BRASILIA?
yes, I do.
no, I don't.

WHAT'S BRASILIA LIKE?(the same of TELL ME MORE ABOUT BRASILIA)
Oh, it's....
It has...
There is ...
There are...

I asked everybody to bring pictures of a city you have visited so that we can share some information about it.

Homework: Student book page 43, fill in the blanks (comparatives and superlatives), and workbook page 29.

I hope to see everybody on Wednesday, and don't forget the pictures!

Dear students, we had a wonderful and fun class! We finished Unit 5, and next class we are starting a new Unit with a very interesting topic, Cities around the World. As homework, I asked you to finish the workbook pages related to Unit 5. Also, I asked you to make a little research about a city in the world that you would like to share information about with your classmates. So, start looking for curiosities, attractions, monuments of the city you want to talk about. If you can bring pictures, or anything you could share about the city you will be talking about, that would be nice and would enrich our class.

Well, I have already started to research about my special city!

Take a look at some very nice sites and travel a bit!

I'm sure you'll enjoy the trip, even if it just a virtual one!

See you on Monday.

BORROW vs LEND

João Paulo,

You asked last class, so here is the information on the different meanings of borrow and lend. I hope it is clear for you now. If you have questions, feel free to ask.

Borrow vs. Lend

Can you, guys, make any sentence or question using them?

WEEK 3 - AUG 8

We started our lively class with the news of the week. Everybody has always something to say!

We checked the homework. Workbook page 25. There are still some people in doubt on how to use LIKE/WOULD LIKE. I'll include some links for you to study that online.

We kept dealing with using the future for intentions, and we highlighted the difference between GOING TO/WILL.

Remember: Going to - Plan, premeditated action in the future
Will - Intention is spontaneous.

Examples: I'm cold. I think I'LL get a sweater.

I am going to Alaska next vacation, so I am GOING TO take lots of sweaters.

The homework for next class is: Student book, page 37, number 3 (Discussing Grammar).

Today we had a new student in class. Welcome, Marilda!

See you on Wednesday.
